GoPro Helmet HERO: a Short Overview

2012
01.04

In this brief GoPro Helmet HERO review, we will take a very short overview of some of the descriptions of this camera.

For its dimensions, the camera measures (H x W x D): 1.6″ x 2.4″ x 1.2″ (42mm x 60mm x 30mm). It weighs an approximate of 3.3 ounce or as light as 94 grams including the battery. But if you include the housing in measuring the weight, it will add up to about 167 grams or 5.9oz.

It has an LCD BacPac for easy and quick preview and playback. For double battery life, it has an Endurance Battery BacPac.

It is very easy to expand the functionality of your camera because the GoPro Helmet HERO is compatible with all other GoPro HERO camera mounting accessories. You can clamp it to bike handlebars and seat posts, mount to surfboards, and even be worn on the wrist or chest or any way you see fit.

The Tokina 16-50mm Lens Still Suffers from a Few Problems

2011
12.29

Leica Ernst Leitz M3 BLACK Repainted Rangefinder MINT-When I first saw the Tokina 16-50mm, I almost thought it was a Nikkor lens based on the design. The body is made out of a sturdy metal alloy and high quality plastic so durability is certainly not a problem. Nikkor has its own lens in this focus range, but in comparison the Tokina is a much smaller and lighter product. It is still not the smallest or lightest lens available, but this is due to the solid build materials. This lens has been getting a lot of positive reviews, but all of them have also mentioned the chromatic aberrations that it suffers from. This is something that I have noticed on a few Tokina lenses in the past, so it is disappointing to see that they have not managed to completely solve the problem yet. It is something that is relatively easy to fix while editing your photos, so I do not think this lens should be completely discounted.

Shooting with Tamron 18-250 Lens

2011
10.11

The Tamron 18-250 f/3.5-6.3 Di-II lens is not flare or distortion free but is closer to Canon’s 18-200mm lens than to Sigma’s 18-200mm OS super telephoto zoom lens. The Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II lens is, at the time of writing this review, the lightest super zoom lens lens in the 18-200mm super telephoto zoom lens class. It is beaten only by its predecessor which is the Tamron 18-200mm so this means it only win barely. At the time of writing this review, the Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II lens is available in Canon and Nikon mounts. I use this lens on my Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera and I have gotten pretty good results from it. My favorite shot is of a woman and a dog on the beach. I simply love the simplicity of that shot. If you are looking to purchase one, I would recommend searching online for the lens because it is cheaper.

Ways to Prolong Digital Battery Life

2011
10.09

A captivating rainbow appears on the horizon after a strong rain. It was so magnificent that you aimed your camera and shot. But ooops! Your camera’s battery is drained. This is one sad incident you can prevent. Here are some tips on how to extend your camera’s battery life.

1. The LCD display screen drains a lot of power. Therefore, dim it whenever possible. Preview the picture only at the end part of the session. Make the most of the viewfinder.

2. Set the power saver. It lets your camera in sleep mode which means it is not completely shut down.

3. The zoom has a motor that eats up more power. Use it less if possible.

4. Push shutter button only when ready to shoot. Resetting and refocusing drains battery life.

5. The less time you use the flash, the more power you save.

6. Delete pictures in your computer and not on the camera.

7. Charge your battery always. It works longer and performs better when charge regularly.

Why Graffiti is Both Beauty and Ugliness

2011
10.06

Obviously, some graffiti has aesthetic and expressive merit – such as one of those social commentaries by Banksy. It’s colorful, it can send a message, it can be a mural, it can be beautiful. On the flip side, it can be vulgar, gang-related, ugly, vandalism that amounts to nothing more than destruction of property. It can cost cities money to paint over or remove damage done by graffiti artists. Private property owners may continually find their property defaced. Graffiti can also be a cultural addition to city walls and buildings. There is no inherent problem with graffiti that is consented to or endorsed by the city or property owner, but if objected to… even if nicely done it amounts to a violation of someone’s building. In the end, I think your basic graffiti is intended to be disrespectful juvenile vandalism, but when taken a step further… when done in a manner and place where it is appreciated it can become art.

My Debut Photographic Exhibition

2011
09.25

I have always wanted to try and put more time into my photography. I have spent my entire life working in the office, and now that I have turned 40 I have started to think about “What if…?”. During my working career I spent a lot of my spare time building up a collection of great lenses to go with my camera, and whenever I had the chance I would go and spend time in the great outdoors, trying to improve my landscape photography. I have always enjoyed landscapes the most, just sitting still and watching the light and colour change in front of me has been a relaxing escape from the daily grind. Now I actually have a reasonable collection of photos, and am thinking it is time to start exhibiting or selling them. I spoke to someone I know at the local gallery who has agreed to display some of my images for a four week stint starting mid next month. I am very excited, but not quite ready to quit my day job just yet!

Why is It So Hard to Find a Good Photographer?

2011
09.03

There are many reasons that it is difficult to find a great photographer in Vancouver. One reason is that the market is too saturated. There are just too many photographers out there. On top of that many of them are armatures and do not have the skills to capture a wedding in style. One more reason is that the good photographers are usually not too computer savvy as they are quite old. So, they are most likely not able to be found online. You’ll need to ask around a lot to find these types of quality people.

If you do end up going with a more seasoned pro, remember that it will cost you. Sometimes the bill can be in exess of $20,000 for one wedding. Are you willing to pay these fees? Maybe you are. And you will probably have some great photos of your wedding day to share for a lifetime.

Some Tamron 60mm Drawbacks

2011
06.26

There are many folks out there that are loving their Tamron 60mm lens. I am included in this group as well. I got this lens about a month ago and have enjoyed every moment I spend shooting with this lens. However, during those shooting time, I have found several drawbacks on this lens that might be beneficial for people to know. I will list them out in this short review.

First, the lens can be slow to focus at times. If you are a macro shooter, you should not be worried about this since you are supposed to be using manual focus anyway. Next, if you are using the auto focus, the sound can be loud at times. This is a problem when you are doing street photography. However, if you do not want to be discrete and want to shoot portraits, then this would not be a problem at all.
